The newly released Phoenix Contact multi-channel electronic device circuit breakers provide greater functionality in a very small amount of space. Thanks to the push-in connection technology, they are particularly suitable for use in machine building and control technology. Configuration could not be easier with the new nominal current assistant. The multi-channel outputs means distribution boards are no longer needed in small systems saving even more space in the panel, which allows for further cost savings and smaller cabinets to be used.
Your advantages
- Optimum system protection and nominal currents set up easily using the nominal current assistant
- Versatile use, thanks to fine nominal current levels
- Space-saving, easy installation, thanks to the compact design and push-in connection technology which allows for easier power distribution in your system
- Increased system safety, thanks to electronic locking of the set nominal currents and active current limitation
- Various fields of application, thanks to the wide temperature range and high resistance to shock and vibration
Function description of CBM device circuit breakers
CBM eight-channel electronic device circuit breaker
The CBM product range protects against overload and short-circuit currents in 24 V DC circuits. The nominal current of each channel can be adjusted individually in fine increments between 0.5 and 10 A. The selected settings are locked electronically which prevents the risk of unintentional adjustment.
The integrated early warning system ensures fewer failures. If 80% of the set nominal current of a channel is reached, a warning is indicated via the associated LED. Furthermore, the separate signal output can be used for remote signaling.
Thanks to the active current limitation, the upstream power supply can be used optimally. This enables the use of smaller switched-mode power supply units and prevents undesirable voltage dips and just 41mm wide they take up very little room on the DIN rail.
Function elements
- 4 or 8 independent channels
- Remote indication contact
- Reset input
- Early warning at 80%, 24 V DC output, and LED signal
- LED display for supply voltage, surge voltage, and undervoltage
- Power supply 2 x minus
- Power supply 2 x plus
- Electronic locking
- Adjustable nominal currents: 0.5 to 10 A
Tripping characteristic of CBM device circuit breakers
Tripping characteristic for the setting range from 2 to 10 A
Electronic device circuit breakers in the CBM product range are equipped with active current limitation. Depending on the preset current, this function limits short-circuit and overload currents to a value that is 1.5 to 2 times that of the nominal current. This protects the power supply against excessively high currents and prevents the output voltage dipping at the switched-mode power supply unit. It is therefore possible to virtually fully plan the connected load of a DC voltage power supply. In addition, longer cable paths between the power supply and load are possible without negatively impacting the shutdown behavior.
The integrated sensor continuously measures the current flowing and switches off within approximately 30 or 0.02 seconds in the event of an overload current or short circuit.
The tripping characteristics show the shutdown time depending on the current.

Phoenix Contact now have free CAD data in the widely used ‘DXF’, ‘IGES’ and ‘STEP’ file formats available for all their power supplies, UPS, DC/DC converters and accessories.
The advantages of using CAD to design in Phoenix models into either new designs, or when designing out older models or a competitors unit, is the amount of time it saves by not having to do all the layout yourself and knowing that everything is 100% correct.
If you do need CAD data for any unit please do not hesitate to contact us.

Redundancy modules – QUINT ORING with ACB technology
With Phoenix QUINT ORING redundancy modules, you meet the highest of system availability requirements. Devices with the new ACB technology offer everything for reliable decoupling, monitoring and regulating redundant power supply concepts.

Advantages at a glance:
- Even distribution doubles service life
Phoenix ORING module’s newly developed (ACB) Auto Current Balancing technology doubles the service life of redundantly operated power supply units, by equally loading both power supply units. Equal division of the load current is automated.
- Save 70% energy
QUINT ORING decouples with MOFSETs instead of conventional Shottky or silicon diodes so that up to 70 percent of energy is saved when compared with conventional diode modules.
- Continuous redundancy
The use of two Plus output terminal blocks makes it possible to devise a redundant wiring concept that runs right through to the load.
- Permanent load current monitoring
Load current monitoring offers a major advantage: if the user connects additional loads to a redundant power supply unit during system expansion, this can lead to redundancy loss.
- OVP (Over Voltage Protection)
All surge voltages are limited to 32V and if used with two Phoenix QUINT power supply you have a double fail safe.
An example of how this works is a controller that requires 4 amps is supplied by two redundant power supply units, each with a nominal current of 5 amps. As part of a system expansion, the user connects another load with 4 amps. The power supply units easily supply 8 amps without any voltage dips.
However, in this instance there is no more redundancy. If one of the two power supply units fails, the second device cannot provide the 8 amps. This is why checking the load current is important.
With the QUINT ORING modules, the user immediately notices when there is no more redundancy, as the QUINT ORING modules detects critical operating states within the entire supply path and notifies the operator in good time.
At this moment there are three models to choose from which are 2320173, 2320186 and 2902879 which cover power ranges from 10A up to 80A respectively.

Here at Protocol Power Products we always try to highlight to our customers the latest in power and power solutions and the Phoenix IQ UPS and free software is in our opinion one of the breakthrough technologies in recent years. Although there have been many DIN rail UPS systems introduced a lot of these are really ‘dumb’ UPS systems where the only communication feature is a flashing or solid led light.
The Phoenix system however is far more advanced and in also more price competitive, below are just some of the key features:-
Device information
- Status bar
- Intelligent battery management with State of charge, State of health and state of function.
- Configurable software options such as setting alarm alerts which can be emailed to two~four people for example when the battery is at 60%, there is only 10 minutes of back up available, the UPS has gone offline, the battery is nearing the end of its life and needs replacing, a shut down event has started and more.
- If used in PC mode you can set how long you would the unit to buffer in minutes (up to 18 hours) and seconds. Create a controlled shut down program where if the power has been off for 1 hour and you want the PC to do a controlled shut down of the hardware and software it is controlling and also put in a time delay restart of the PC of up to 60 seconds to try and ensure mains is restored permanently.
- Easy service options such as changing the batteries or if installing multiple identical systems by using a IFS-CONFSTICK you can download all the settings from one system and upload them to the next system in under 30 seconds saving you a lot of time configuring the system.
- Advanced information on the system such as units being used, battery type, serial numbers of units and battery, actual charging current, wire distance to battery, wire cross section to the battery unit, returns to mains time and much more information.
- Very full and advanced monitoring information giving out information such as when the system was started, when it has gone off-line and on to battery power and for how long, when it went back on to mains power etc.
- The system can be accessed and settings changed by the internet if in a remote site by using remote access control, WiFi and by Ethernet via a COMs controller. The UPS system can also be password protected to stop anyone changing any of the settings.
- Different types of batteries available such BAT/VRLA which has 0~+40 operating temperature range, LI-ION (Lithium Ion) which has a -20 to +58C operating temperature range, and BAT/VRLA-WTR UPS which has a -40 to +60C operating temperature range.
- Depending upon which type of UPS controller you use they are capable of a battery capacity range of 0.8Ah to 200Ah so even the most demanding system can be held up.
Along with the all in one TRIO AC/DC power supply/UPS, there is QUINT DC/DC UPS range in single outputs from 24V, 5 to 40A and dual output unit with 12V,5A and 24V/10A output and also a AC/AC 500VA unit.
